A little history... A low wing fully-aerobatic two seat trainer, the R.2160 features dual 'stick-controls' and bubble canopy making it ideal for learning aerobatics. Because of its ability it can be quite often found at many aero clubs being used as an aerobatic trainer.
It is rated to +6g and -3g which is more than adequate for all but the highest level of competition.
The Robin R2160A is an all metal, low wing, aerobatic monoplane. It is powered by a 160hp (120kW) Lycoming O320D engine. It is stressed to +6 -3g and has a MTOW of 900kg. There is also a fuel injected model (R160Ai) and a non-aerobatic 120hp trainer (R120T).
These aircraft were originally designed by Pierre Robin and manufactured by Apex Aircraft but the type certificate has since been obtained by a New Zealand company called Alpha Aviation. This company had all the manufacturing jigs shipped to New Zealand and began deliveries of new build aircraft in July 2006. The type designations (R2160A, etc.) remain the same.
